Fall’s Coming- Plant Something

Yaku Jima Maiden Grass

Man, the mornings are getting cool and sunset’s coming a lot sooner! I took this picture yesterday morning while waiting for the crew to show up at the job site. This is a great time for plants- the soil’s still warm, and in the mornings everything is blanketed with condensation.  If our hot summer had you put your plans on hold, now’s the time to get those plants in the ground!

For those of you not familiar with them, Stadler Nurseries has a location on route 28 just south of Manassas. The quality of the plant material is fantastic, their pricing is very fair, and it just so happens that I’m handling the design leads coming out of that store. So if you’re looking for something in particular or just anything beautiful, give me a call or email and I’ll take care of you.

If you’re intrigued by the photo of the grass, it’s Yaku Jima Maiden Grass- Miscanthus sinensis ‘Yaku-Jima’, a tough and beautiful variety of ornamental grass. Grasses are a great, deer-resistant way to add texture and movement to a landscape, and as you can see the plumes have a magic all their own- filtering the view beyond, and really catching the light at sunrise and sunset. I used a couple of different species of grass on this site; I’ll post pics when the job is further along. Sod comes tomorrow!

In the meantime, enjoy the cool mornings and warm afternoons. And plant something- it’ll pay off every day.
