Inspiring Design- the 15 Below Project

August 14, 2008

I came across this site today- it’s called the 15 Below Project, and it was a way of giving back to the community for a design company on its fifteenth anniversary. To me, it’s an example of great design- they totally hit this one out of the park. The goal was to create an inexpensive, durable means of keeping people alive in cold weather (15 Below refers to -15 degrees C, which is when the Canadian government issues a cold weather alert). The genius is that the level of insulation is adjustable, because newspaper is inserted into pockets throughout the garment! Absolutely brilliant. Rather than read my ramblings on it, click the link above, or watch the video of the test. And be humbled, as I am, that someone decided to celebrate their success by giving back to the community.
